Release Note: Create duplicate items
Release Date: Mar 19, 2020
You asked, we listened! Creating a “duplicate” of an existing item is as easy as 1-2-3.
You may have noticed the the new Duplicate Item button in the upper-right of the Detail tab, as shown below.
Clicking on the button brings up the screen below. You’re able to confirm the values that will be transferred to the new item. These include all of the existing item’s metadata except Customer, Due Date, Start Date, Messages, and dates associated with Tasks. The logic is that the latter four things won’t apply to the newly created item. Copying over the Customer will be included in a future release.
Click Yes, duplicate this item to create the duplicate or X to cancel. Notice once the new item is created it has a “Copy of…” in the title.
The new item will be in the same group and workflow status as the item it was copied from. All dates for newly-created items and associated tasks will show up in Schedule View as small “bars” on the date they were created. Users can then adjust dates using the simple drag-and-drop interface on Schedule View.
This new feature is a big win in reducing the amount of manual data entry for new items.
Have a repeat order? Create a copy of the original order and quickly adjust task dates. Have one project that’s similar to another? Quickly create a duplicate and adjust only the things that need adjusting.
We’re always looking for “quick wins” in the pursuit of limiting manual data entry and automating where it makes sense. If you have any suggestions please let us know!
